What Candidates Need
The workspace runs in the candidate's browser, which means their machine does real work. Most modern laptops are fine. Some are not, and it is better for everyone to find out before the clock starts.
Minimum
- A laptop or desktop computer
- 8 GB RAM
- A modern 64-bit processor
- A recent version of Chrome or Edge
- A stable internet connection
Recommended
- 16 GB RAM or more
- Apple Silicon, recent Intel Core, or AMD Ryzen
- The latest Chrome
- Plugged into power
- Other tabs and memory-heavy applications closed
Not supported
Phones and tablets. The workspace needs a real keyboard, a real screen, and browser capabilities mobile browsers do not provide. Candidates on mobile are told this before they can start.
Locked-down corporate machines sometimes block the browser features the runtime needs. If a candidate is taking the assessment from a current employer's laptop, suggest a personal machine — which is usually better for them anyway.
Tell candidates in advance
Put the requirements in the invitation email or the job posting. A candidate who discovers on a phone during a lunch break that they need a laptop will simply not come back.
The device check verifies all of this automatically before the assessment starts, and the timer does not run until it passes.
